LIVING GREEN – NEW PALILULA PROJECT
14.02.2013

One of the main four developmental priorities, defined by the Action Plan of Palilula Municipality 2012-2016, is strategic aim-protection of life environment. Project that will be realized in this organization of local self government of the City of Nis, during this year, within the Programme of cross border cooperation Bulgaria – Serbia, is project Living Green that with the support of EU IPA Fund is being realized with Bulgarian Municipality of Ihtiman.

With pleasure I can say that Palilula Municipality in Nis successfully cooperates with municipalities in Bulgaria-emphasized at the press conference Boban Dzunic, Municipal president. With the realization of this new project - Living Green we will empower our capacities for life environment protection, we will contribute to raising consciousness of our citizens. According to Dzunic, the aims of this new project are stimuli to cooperation at local level about the key matters of common importance regarding strengthening of territorial cohesion, competitiveness and sustainability in cross border region, promotion of sustainable development and building of capacities for common solving of issues and experience exchange in the area of life environment protection, strengthening of Ihtiman and Palilula citizens consciousness on matters connected to life environment, protection of biodiversity, ecologically correct behavior, renewable energy saving, issue on climate changes, cooperation and inclusion in the area of life environment protection and politics of energy efficiency on educational and business level. With raising the consciousness of our citizens, we expect to reduce also the money spending from the budget for the removal of wild landfills.

The support of EU IPA Fund for this project activity is 162,671 Euros and Palilula Municipality is allocated 61,913 Euros.

According to Milos Stojadinovic, manager of the project, at the territory of Palilula Municipality some twenty wild landfills exist which makes about 2-3 thousand of cubic meters of waste. If we take into account that removal of only one cubic of waste is about 2000 to 2500 RSD, total money that should be provided for sanitation of jeopardized space comes over the value of total project, says Stojadinovic. Living green project should contribute that the citizens understand that the territory of Palilula is actually their life space, for the fact that the waste that is thrown away without any thinking and consciousness only jeopardize health of all citizens in our surrounding. We will be focusing on young people. We will open competitions in high schools, collect information on the state of life environment and we will search for solutions how to improve life environment in Nis, Palilula and our region. After that, those information will be exchanged with partner from Bulgaria and we will do publication and web site, media releases..

This project has for its aim raising of responsibility of our citizens for their life environment and according to the words of the organizers, it will also promote new forms of interactive modules and best practice for common construction of capacities in the form of life protection in the region.
